One Thing Led To Another I was born in Pittsburgh where my father, inventor and Westinghouse Electrical Engineer, was given the job of launching KDKA, the world’s first commercial radio station. I grew up in California. After two and a half years at Seattle's Cornish School of the Arts I earned a degree in Costume Design. Moving to New York, found work with two interior designers. Three years later I met and married Douglas Laurence, just out of the Air Force, and we came back to Los Angeles. In LA, while he managed and produced live comedy and musical acts, I designed outfits for his singing acts, naming one "The Continentals" be- cause they sang in five languages. He produced over 400 fifteen minute transcribed shows with the Riders of the Purple Sage. Learning on the job, I wrote lead-in and exit dialogue for each song. Over time,Doug moved from live entertainment to producing feature films at MGM while I was raising our family, making costumes, sculpting portrait heads on commission, decorating movie stars' homes (one for Errol Flynn), designing packaging for products, and beginning to take writing seriously. |
