One Thing Led To Another

I was born in Pittsburgh where my father, inventor and Westinghouse Electrical Engineer, was given the job of launching KDKA, the world’s first commercial radio station. I grew up in California. After two and a half years at Seattle's Cornish School of the Arts I earned a degree in Costume Design.

Moving to New York, found work with two interior designers. Three years later I met and married Douglas Laurence, just out of the Air Force, and
we came back to Los Angeles.

In LA, while he managed and produced live comedy
and musical acts, I designed outfits for his
singing acts, naming one "The Continentals" be-
cause they sang in five languages. He produced
over 400 fifteen minute transcribed shows with
the Riders of the Purple Sage. Learning on the
job, I wrote lead-in and exit dialogue for each
song.

Over time,Doug moved from live entertainment
to producing feature films at MGM while I was
raising our family, making costumes, sculpting portrait heads on commission, decorating movie
stars' homes (one for Errol Flynn), designing packaging for products, and beginning to take
writing seriously.

The stories are engaging, readable, and unpretentiously written--the way some might say history ought to be written.
